I’ve finally succeeded in making a little toadstool which stands on its own!

We did a lot of this…

Filed under: holidays — Jen @ 9:57 pm

We escaped to Brussels after work on Friday and have just returned after a lovely long weekend. The weather was beautiful so we are both sunburnt from spending three days out and about. We seemed to walk the length and breadth of Brussels and visited some wonderful churches and Art Nouveau buildings, as well as soaking up the atmosphere in various bars and tea shops. I squeezed some waffles into my bag so at least I have brought a little goodness back with me - I wish I could say the same about the weather.

Further toadstool progress

Filed under: swaps — Jen @ 9:55 pm

When I got home from work this evening, on the advice of Amy, I scrambled around in the garden for small pieces of gravel. Then I had another attempt at making a toadstool that can stand on it’s own two feet (or stalk!).

Sadly, although this one is lovingly embellished, it needs the support of a wall. I’m off to Brussels for the Bank Holiday weekend so my next attempt will have to be next week, when I’ll be attempting to make the stalk flare out at the bottom. I’m so glad I started this swap early!

Toadstool progress

When I saw a swap on LucyKate Crafts blog I just couldn’t resist (even though I swore I needed some time off from swaps during the Doll Quilt 3 Swap!). The swap is for a handmade toadstool, using her wonderful tutorial.
My swap partner, Tiffany, requested vintage colour combinations so I’ve used a lovely thrifted pillowcase for the top.

This is my first attempt, propped up in my new vintage kitchen cupboard because it doesn’t stand up on it’s own! I’m sure I must have missed a step - any advice anyone?

Swap package received

Swap package received, originally uploaded by Jennifer Young.

I received this beautiful quilt today made by the very talented Jen of Life’s A Quilt through the Doll Quilt Swap 3.

This week I’ve got the whole week off and today went to Windsor to visit family. The weather was incredibly hot but we managed a walk along the river and a nice pub lunch. We’ve also spent some time decorating our house and working on the garden. Pics to follow soon!
